Threads podcast previews: one clip, one episode link, and a click count you can check

Short answer

Since 16 September 2026 Threads lets a show link its podcast feed to a profile and post episode previews: a video clip, a transcribed moment under 30 seconds, or a tagged guest. Insights show clicks and saves.

On 16 September 2026 the @threads account said podcasters can link a show and its podcast feed to a Threads profile, then post episode previews built from a video clip, a transcribed moment under 30 seconds, or a tagged guest. Insights count clicks and saves. What that means for the clips you already pay for.

On 16 September 2026 the official @threads account posted two short how-to posts, and between them they quietly gave podcast clips a click counter.

I read both on 21 October 2026. The first post covers linking a show to your profile and connecting its podcast feed. The second post covers episode previews.

A preview is a post built around one episode. You add a video clip from it, a transcribed moment, or a tagged guest, and anyone who taps it goes to the episode.

Then Insights shows how many people clicked and how many saved.

That last line is the part I care about. Most short-form feeds will tell you a clip was seen. Very few tell you somebody left the feed for the episode.

Here is the complication. A click is not a listen.

Threads counts the tap that leaves Threads. What happens on Spotify or Apple Podcasts after that is invisible to it, and to you, unless you check your host's numbers on the same day.

So the counter is useful. It is also easy to oversell.

Step 1: link the show before you post anything

The @threads post gives the path: Edit profile, then Podcast. The podcast feed goes in under Podcast, then Podcast settings.

The same settings screen has a switch for reminders to post about new episodes. Turn it on. A reminder costs nothing and the alternative is remembering.

Do this on the show's own profile. Not the editor's account, not a fan page, not a clipping account somebody set up for you.

The reason is boring. The feed is yours, the episodes are yours, and a preview is a pointer from a clip to an episode. Whoever owns the profile owns the pointer and the numbers it produces.

If an agency runs your Meta accounts, Threads now has its own access settings, separate from Instagram. VALORAE Media wrote up which of the three Threads access levels to give an agency. Give posting access and keep the top level yourself.

Step 2: pick the preview type per episode, not per habit

The second @threads post lists three ways to build a preview once you have chosen the episode.

  • Upload a video clip from the podcast.
  • Transcribe a specific moment, from a clip under 30 seconds.
  • Showcase and tag a featured guest.

Each one suits a different episode.

The video clip is the default for a conversation with a strong visual moment. A face reacting. A host leaning in. If the clip already works as a Short or a Reel, it can work here.

The transcribed moment is for a line that reads well as text. Threads is a text-first feed, and a sentence people can quote may travel further than the face saying it. The 30 second cap is the only hard limit either post states, so the moment has to be tight.

The guest tag is for episodes where the guest's audience is the prize. Tagging puts the episode in front of the people who follow the guest, which is often more than follow the show.

I would not run the same type every week. Rotate by episode, and let Insights tell you which type earns the click for your show.

Step 3: cut the clip for a tap, not for a finish

This is where most clip libraries need a small change.

A clip built for Shorts or Reels is built to be watched to the end. The feed rewards the finish, so the best clips resolve the point inside the clip.

A preview wants the opposite. If the clip resolves everything, nobody needs to tap.

So the preview clip should stop one beat early. The question is asked and the answer starts. The story reaches the turn and cuts.

That is a contrarian line for anyone who has been told to close every loop. For a preview, leave one open.

VALORAE Arc has delivered 500+ videos, and a clip for Shorts or Reels is cut to be finished. A preview is a different brief, and it is worth telling your clipper which one they are cutting.

Step 4: decide what a click is worth to you

Threads gives you two numbers per preview: clicks and saves.

A click means someone left Threads for the episode. A save means someone meant to come back. Neither one means they listened.

Then compare against your host. Pull the episode's plays or downloads from your hosting dashboard on the same date you pull the Threads numbers, and keep them in separate columns.

Do not add them together. Two platforms counting two different actions do not make one number.

And be honest about scale. The @threads post about linking a show had 24.7K views when I read it on 21 October 2026. That is Threads itself, promoting its own feature, from its own account.

So expect small numbers at first. Small is fine if they are real clicks to your episode.

Step 5: ask your clipper for the preview as well as the file

If you pay for clips, add one line to the brief: a preview-ready cut per episode.

That means a clip that stops a beat early, a 30 second or shorter moment that reads as a quote, and the guest's Threads handle if they have one.

It also means a report that puts Threads clicks and saves next to each preview, with each platform in its own column, because a view on one feed and a view on another are measured differently.

VALORAE Arc counts 10M+ views generated across its work. That number is reach. A Threads click is a step further down, and it should sit in its own row rather than being folded into a views total that makes it look bigger.

That is the honest limit of the feature. It measures one more step than a view.

It still stops at the edge of Threads.

Step 6: check what you cannot see yet

Some things neither @threads post says, and I would not guess at them.

Neither post gives a length limit for the video clip itself. Neither says whether previews are available everywhere or only in some markets. Neither says whether a preview is shown to people who do not follow you, or only to followers.

Neither post says how long Insights keeps the click data either.

If any of that matters to your plan, test one preview on one episode and read what the app shows you. The interface will answer faster than a recap will.

We did not know whether the transcribed moment would beat the video clip for a talk show. We still do not, for any show but the one you test it on.

The short version

  • Link the show and its podcast feed to the show's own Threads profile.
  • Turn on the new-episode posting reminder in Podcast settings.
  • Rotate preview types: video clip, transcribed moment under 30 seconds, tagged guest.
  • Cut preview clips to stop one beat early so the tap has a reason.
  • Read clicks and saves next to your host's plays, never added together.
  • Give your agency posting access and keep ownership of the profile.

Frequently asked questions

What are Threads podcast previews?

A post format the @threads account described on 16 September 2026. You pick your show's cover art in the composer, choose an episode, then add a video clip from it, a transcribed moment from a clip under 30 seconds, or a tagged featured guest. People who tap the preview go to the episode.

How do I link my podcast to my Threads profile?

The @threads post of 16 September 2026 gives the path as Edit profile, then Podcast. The podcast feed is connected under Podcast, then Podcast settings, where you can also turn on reminders to post about new episodes.

What do Threads podcast insights measure?

Clicks and saves on the preview, according to the @threads post of 16 September 2026. Threads does not say it reports listens or watch time inside the episode, so a click is the last step it can see.

Can my clipping agency post Threads previews for me?

The preview hangs off a show linked to a profile through its podcast feed, so it belongs on the show's own profile. Give the agency posting access to that profile rather than letting it post previews from an account of its own.
